GUEST POST : Beauty Benefits of Yoga - How to Heal Your Skin with Your Mind

Since we are being bombarded with a huge amount of different ads nowadays, which mostly show young, gorgeous-looking women, every girl’s and woman’s dream around the world is to have beautiful, healthy, glowing skin. Due to everyday improvements made in the cosmetic industry, women are offered a wide selection of skincare products.
However, while some of these products for sure have some benefits, a general healthy lifestyle will definitely contribute even more to having smooth, radiant skin.

Putting in the effort

Aging gracefully, while at the same time maintaining once beautiful and toned skin is perfectly possible without using any invasive and painful procedures. While it is advisable to use moisturizing creams, as well as sun protection creams, we should also pay attention to other aspects that can help us keep our skin healthy.

So, in addition to using Medik8 Hydra8 Body which helps keep the skin hydrated as well as soft and supple, we also shouldn’t forget to actually drink plenty of water in order to keep our whole body hydrated. But it’s not just about drinking water; it’s also about eating fresh food, using natural beauty products, exercising, getting enough sleep, smiling, staying positive.

Healthy on the inside, healthy on the outside

Due to our lives being quite stressful these days, and this is quite often evident on our skin, we should find a way to let go of all this stress. While not everyone finds that exercising is for them, more and more people find that doing yoga helps them feel relaxed and healthy.

What yoga does is balance the mind and the body, synchronizing our spirit with our body. This leads to an overall balance of the organism, which is quite often shown on our skin, our face, our smile. Meditation, breathing, and certain postures can relax us and clear our minds.

Yoga tips for glowing skin

While there are many benefits from doing yoga, there are certain postures and recommended exercises which will benefit the skin specifically.
For example, doing Asanas helps increase blood circulation to the head and face. Some recommended Asana poses are:  Cobra Pose, Fish Pose, Plow Pose, Shoulder Stand, Triangle Pose, Child Pose.

Doing the Kneeling Pose or the Bow Pose on an empty stomach while alternating nostril breathing will help improve and regulate digestive process. Kapalbhati is recommended as a very effective detoxifying technique and doing quick Sun Salutation sequences will help to naturally remove toxins from the system which will lead to fresh, glowing skin.
There are also several different facial yoga exercises which can be done at home everyday whenever one wishes to do them. These exercises help tighten facial muscles but also help in reducing stress. Try massaging your jaw or your eyebrows for a dose of instant relaxation. The ‘kiss and smile technique’ – push out your lips as if to kiss and then smile as broadly as possible – keeps the mouth and cheek area looking plump.

A yoga beginner? Not a problem.

It’s never too late to start anything, and this is especially true when it comes to taking up yoga. While there are quite a few obstacles the beginners will face, they will easily overcome them if they face them with joy. Some advice for yoga beginners include: keep a practice journal – list new terms and new postures you have learned; create a home yoga practice space; define what kind of practice you wish to maintain.

So if we are strong willed and determined to be healthy, all we have to do is put in the effort, stay positive and make our mind and body work in harmony.
